Medical supplies donated to Krabi Elephant Hospital

Medical supplies donated to Krabi Elephant Hospital 1

The Krabi Elephant Hospital is located in Khlong Thom district in Krabi and is one of the three government run elephant hospitals in Thailand. The hospital is operated under royal patronage by The National Elephant Institute, as is its larger sister in Lampang in Northern Thailand.

As the Southern Thailand’s only government run elephant hospital, it’s also the closest one to Elephant Hills. Over the years we have had excellent cooperation in terms of medical care, regular health checks, laboratory tests, extra hands for both sides in some of the more challenging cases, consultation to our onsite vet, as well as joint workshops and training.

Within our Elephant Conservation Project, we have supported the hospital for over a decade, and once again it was our great pleasure to deliver essential medical supplies to the hard-working vet team. This time we helped to replenish the hospital’s stock of two types of saline solution and anti-inflammatory muscle relaxant spray, both of which are some of the most used supplies on a daily basis and were specifically requested by the veterinarians.

There were 11 elephants admitted in the hospital during the time of our visit, with various cases ranging from eye infection and stomach issues to problems with feet and nails. Many elephants in weak condition and dehydration need IV fluids given for long periods of time, and therefore the 64 boxes or 640 liters donated will be promptly put into use.

This hospital provides care for elephants in 14 southern provinces, all the way from the coastal province of Chumphon on the Gulf of Thailand to the southernmost province of Yala in the Thailand – Malaysia border. With free medical care provided to all elephants, but limited resources, the hospital is very grateful for all the support from individuals and companies.

Today’s donation was made possible by our wonderful guests from all over the world, who helped to donate to our Elephant Conservation Project during their visit to Elephant Hills in Khao Sok. Thank you very much for your generous support towards the wellbeing of Thai elephants!

Within our Elephant Conservation Project we try to help improving the welfare of domestic elephants by supporting government run elephant hospitals. We also contribute to wild elephant conservation by helping the Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks to prevent human-elephant conflicts. We are currently looking for companies to co-operate with our project through corporate sponsorship. Please contact us at [email protected] if your company would be interested in aiding the elephants in Thailand.
