Children’s Project donation to 134 students

Mae Hong Son province in Northern Thailand
Mae Hong Son province, located at the Thai-Myanmar border in the Northern Thailand, is known for its breathtaking mountains and idyllic valleys with endless rice fields. We at Elephant Hills have a close connection to this area through our mahouts. Our elephant handlers are part of the Karen hill tribe and originally come from Mae Hong Son province.
Many children living in the remote areas don’t have the same opportunities, resources or access to education as kids growing up in more urban and developed areas. As we have been doing in Khao Sok for years, we are trying our best to support the schools also in this mountainous northern province through our Children’s Project.
Donation at Don Chai Witthaya School
With donations from our amazing guests and our company, we recently brightened up the days of 134 children in Don Chai Witthaya School. On our past two visits at this school, we have donated stationery, socks, vegetable seeds, notebooks and kids’ cups for brushing teeth. This time we were back with sports equipment and stationery.
It was wonderful to see, that the school truly embraces the Karen culture. Old traditions, such as Karen dancing is taught, and the students put up a lovely performance to welcome us. They wore beautiful, white hand-woven dresses and accessories. The children’s performance was a fantastic way to start the donation event, and of course the students were absolutely thrilled to receive the donations.
We also had a chance to meet the new headmaster of the school. He was really impressed to hear about our guests’ efforts bringing essential stationery, educational toys, toothbrushes and tooth paste as well as clothes from all around the world! As a gesture of gratitude towards Elephant Hills Children’s Project, the headmaster presented us with a gift. It was a beautiful, framed drawing by one of the Karen students, picturing the endless rice fields and Karen people wearing their traditional clothing.
We couldn’t help but admire the outstanding determination and skills of these rural children. Supporting their education can help not only them, but their families and entire communities. If you or your company would like to co-operate with Elephant Hills Children’s Project, please contact us for more information at projects@elephanthills.com.
On behalf of Don Chai Witthaya School, big thanks to our kindhearted guests!
