We are excited to share the news of this delightful donation that was facilitated in collaboration with The Bush Camp Chiang Mai, a tented camp located in the stunning mountain scenery overlooking the Ping River. Starting from the very early days of planning to build the Bush Camp, the team has been in close contact with the local community in the surrounding areas. Getting to know the local villagers, authorities and schools has helped us to assess the areas where we can help.

The closest school to The Bush Camp Chiang Mai

Baan Dong Dam is a primary school located in Hod district in Chiang Mai, and just a few minutes’ drive away from The Bush Camp. Similar to many rural schools in Thailand, this school is lacking funds in several areas to further improve the facilities and quality of education. Baan Dong Dam School currently has 11 teachers taking care of 48 students.

Before our Projects team headed to the Northern Thailand, we asked the teachers to list some of the most essential equipment and items. It became obvious that the most urgent needs concerned the students’ daily meals, as the old kitchenware and tools were worn out and insufficient considering the number of students.

Elephant Hills - The Bush Camp - Kitchenware donation (1)

With the funds donated to our Children’s Project via the donation boxes at Elephant Hills camp in Khao Sok, we purchased the much needed cookware and kitchen tools, along with some gardening equipment and badminton sets. Understanding that the needs for the school canteen are very specific, we made sure that the cookware and items were of the correct specs and quality, as required by the cooks.

Durable stainless steel equipment will last for long and ensure that the 48 students will get their daily meals for years to come. The school also needed equipment to help them with their on-going gardening and renovation projects, and we gladly provided them with hoes, shovels, watering cans and a hammer.

On the day of the donation, we met with the joyful The Bush Camp Chiang Mai team to deliver the equipment. All the teachers arrived to greet us and were very pleased to receive the much-needed equipment. Soon the students started to peek out of the classrooms and gathered around to say hello. They were glad to see that each of them gets a new plate for the school meals. It makes us extremely happy to be able to help in such a concrete way that has a great impact on improving the school meals for the rural children.

Needless to say, the badminton sets caught the students’ attention and after a quick group photo there was no need to encourage either the kids nor The Bush Camp and Projects teams into several lighthearted matches. The laughter and games quickly expanded into the playground, which had been previously donated by The Bush Camp Chiang Mai. Volleyballs and footballs were promptly retrieved to include all students from kindergarten to grade six to join in the fun.

Within our Children’s Project we accept donations of new or second hand items in good condition, as listed on our “Pack with a purpose” list. All donations, big or small, are very much appreciated by us and the rural Thai children!

If you or your company would be interested in cooperating with Elephant Hills Children’s Project on a larger project through corporate sponsorship, please get in touch.
