School supplies for hill tribe children
After packing up yet another great amount of donations received from our generous guests, we took to the road and drove across the mountains of Mae Hong Son to reach rural schools in and around Mae Sariang town. We have a close connection to this area through our Karen elephant care takers, most of whom are originally from Mae Hong Son.
One of the schools visited was Baan Pa Mor Lor school, located North-West from the town. This is a small school with only 30 students, all of them are part of the Karen hill tribe. Four teachers work tirelessly to provide good education for the students, but there is still a lot to improve when it comes to stationery and other equipment. The teachers mentioned that the students are specifically lacking notebooks, pencils, erasers and sports clothes.
The teachers, as well as the students were extremely happy to receive plenty of stationery, children’s books, sports equipment and food supplies delivered by our Children’s Project team. The young students examined the donations from all around the world with their eyes sparkling and wide smiles on their faces. These children live in rural areas and many come from less fortunate conditions, which makes it very special for them to receive these much-needed donations.
