Guests’ donations delivered to Baan Mae Aumlong Noi School
To our great delight, we are noticing that many of our guests visiting Elephant Hills are already aware of our “Pack with a purpose” list. Based on our discussion with the teachers and head masters in the schools we help through our Children’s Project, we have listed the “suitcase friendly” items most needed by the less privileged children. After gathering some of the latest donations consisting of stationery and second-hand clothes, we headed to Pa Pae sub-district in Mae Hong Son province in Northern Thailand.
We have a special connection to this area through our staff, as most of our elephant handlers are originally from here. The Karen hilltribe people are very talented taking care of the elephants, and the profession of a mahout is usually passed down from father to son. We are very pleased to be able to support the children in these remote communities. After driving the winding dirt roads, while passing beautiful mountain views, we arrived in a small school located in Mae Aumlong Noi village.
Baan Mae Aumlong Noi School has 44 students with nine children living in the school grounds during the terms. The families of the nine students live in the mountains so far from the school, that it wouldn’t make sense for the kids to travel back and forth each day. This school is in a remote area and receives very little help, and they were extremely pleased of our visit. You could just sense the excitement amongst the children after seeing all the colorful pens, erasers and notebooks from all around the world.
The teachers were very appreciative of the useful donations, and were glad that we had included some children’s clothes too. Although Southern Thailand is famous of its warm weather throughout the year, the temperature in these mountain villages in the North can occasionally get as low as 0 degrees during the winter. Children’s clothes that are clean and in good condition are very welcome along with educational toys and games, blank notebooks and stationery. Please check the full list here before your trip to Elephant Hills!
Thank you for helping Elephant Hills Children’s Project to help less privileged Thai children!
We are currently looking for partners to help us to support this and other schools in need. If you or your company would be interested, please contact us at projects@elephanthills.com.
