Continuous help towards less fortunate Thai children
The team here at Elephant Hills was extremely happy to hear that our long-term partner from Germany, Tischler Reisen AG wanted to join hands with our Children’s Project – for the second time! Nearly a couple of years ago we cooperated in providing less fortunate students with school uniforms. This donation was a success, and much appreciated by the children and their families.
Check out a video of this new donation at Baan Yaplong School:
This time the focus was on sports and gardening equipment, specifically requested by Baan Yaplong School. This school is located very close to our tented camp in Khao Sok, and we have been supporting the kids here for over ten years. The students also perform traditional Thai dancing as a part of our evening program at Elephant Hills, rotating with other schools nearby.
Growing vegetables to aid food supply
As many other schools in Thailand, Baan Yaplong School started its gardening project several years ago, encouraged by the late king of Thailand, Rama IX. The beloved king inspired Thai people to become more self-sufficient and grow their own vegetables. At Baan Yaplong School they have a great motivation to continue their gardening project, but sadly they have been lacking budget for seeds and essential equipment.
With the generous donation from Tischler Reisen AG, we were able to purchase and deliver a wonderful selection of gardening equipment. The kids and teachers were absolutely thrilled to receive watering cans, a brush cutter, pruning shears, gardening forks, garden hose, hoes, rakes and lots of vegetable seeds. Growing their own vegetables is not only boosting their school meals, but also teaches important skills that they can further pass on to their friends and families.
In addition to gardening equipment, Baan Yaplong School also requested for sports equipment, especially volleyballs. The rural school’s team has succeeded very well in competitions; indeed, this year they are the winners of the school league in Southern Thailand. This amazing achievement got them to play against the top school teams this month in Nonthaburi. They have done all this without proper volleyballs to practice with.
Impressed by the determination and hard work of the students, we had selected volleyballs based on their specifications. We also brought some petanque sets as the teachers had reported that the existing ones are very old and damaged. The children were eager to test all equipment immediately, and our Elephant Hills team was invited to join a joyful volleyball match.
It was great to see that both sets of equipment were much appreciated and went straight into good use. The sheer joy in the kids’ eyes when they finally got to play with a proper volleyball, or sow some of the vegetable seeds at their garden, was truly memorable.
Thank you Tischler Reisen AG for your continuous support!
