Day 1: THE AMAZING ELEPHANT EXPERIENCE
Welcome to Elephant Hills
Your experience will begin with your included standard transfer to Khao Sok National Park. Where we can pick you up from any hotel in Phuket, Khao Lak, Phang Nga, Krabi, Surat Thani and Koh Samui. We also pick up from selected flights at Phuket, Surat Thani or Krabi airport. En-route to the camp, you can catch glimpses of tropical rural life here in Southern Thailand. Once you arrive at the Elephant Hills Camp around 12 pm a delicious buffet lunch is served with a variety of traditional cooked Thai dishes.
Canoe Safari through the Sok River
After lunch, you can relax during the canoe safari down the Sok River. The canoes are very stable and safe, life jackets are provided as well as a local river guide to paddle the canoe so you can sit back and enjoy the scenery. As you float down the river you will see the limestone mountains and cliffs covered with exotic tropical vegetation. Sometimes hornbill birds can be seen flying high overhead or reptiles basking in the sun on the riverbanks. From the canoe you can admire some of the last areas of primary rainforest, a world that has changed little in thousands of years.
Our Ethical Elephant Experience
After our Canoe Safari, your next stop will be the Elephant Park. Here you can see, touch and learn about the life of Thai elephants and about the Elephant Hills elephant conservation project. You will prepare and cut up fruit to feed the elephants as part of their daily meal routine which will give you a chance to get up close and personal to these gentle giants. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to really experience the Asian Elephant, the world’s largest land animal! The duration of the activity will be about 2 hours, as we want our elephants to have little human interaction and still get to be elephants roaming free for the rest of the day.
In the late afternoon, you will return to the Elephant Camp for dinner and overnight stay in your luxury glamping tent. During the evening there will be a variety of activities you can participate in from movie nights and dance performances by local children to a cooking demonstration where you can learn to cook traditional Thai dishes like Pad Thai and Som Tam salad. If you would prefer a quiet evening you can enjoy the picturesque surroundings on the deck of your tent or have a few drinks at our jungle bar.
DAY 2: SPECTACULAR CHEOW LARN LAKE
Transfer to the Rainforest Camp
Wake up to the sounds of nature and birds calling, the beauty of glamping in the rainforest. You will have tea and coffee facilities in your tent for early risers so you can enjoy a warm brew before you will hear our ‘gong’ to let you know that breakfast is served.
Today you will explore Cheow Larn Lake and make your way to the Rainforest Camp by local longtail boat to stay with us for your second night. Your larger suitcases will be securely stored at the Elephant Camp so make sure you pack an overnight bag. The freshwater lake is surrounded by limestone mountains and cliffs covered in tropical rainforest that rise up from the shore of the lake and disappear somewhere in the far distance.
Lunch at the Rainforest camp
Once you arrive at our Rainforest Camp, situated in the heart of the national park. Our staff will check you in to your luxury tent, where you can sit back and enjoy the surrounding views of Cheow Larn Lake. A buffet lunch will be served with delicious Thai dishes freshly prepared at the Rainforest Camp.
Jungle Trekking and Cave exploring
Enjoy an afternoon adventure as we take you into the jungle to explore the ecology of one of the world’s oldest rainforests and see a great variety of exotic plants. You will also see a number of different bird species such as the hornbill or monkeys such as gibbons, a macaque or a leaf monkey. We will also make our way to the Diamond Cave, the full hike takes about 3 hours return but not to worry its soft-adventure and we take it at a comfortable pace. Every day is different, but it is always truly wonderful to discover the great variety of life forms that co-exist here. Walk slowly, observe, learn and listen, there is a lot to see and uncover while our tour guides take you on these magical trips.
Time to unwind and relax
Watch the sun set behind the towering limestone mountains from the deckchair in front of your tent or cool off by taking a dip in the emerald green waters. Dinner will be served shortly and you can enjoy a chat or board game with other guests before it is only you and the intriguing sounds of nature under a starlit sky.
DAY 3: RAINFOREST CAMP
Wake up to the sounds of Gibbons calling high up in the trees, whilst the clearing mist unveils the true beauty of the lake. Don’t think twice: As the jungle starts to stir, you could already be out there exploring prehistoric beauty in your kayak! Or do you wish to submerge into the glassy surface of the lake first?
After breakfast, your guide will invite you to join in on a guided kayak safari into the little channels and side arms of Cheow Larn Lake. Take one of our kayaks and start scanning the treetops for lazy hornbill birds or energetic primates.
Lunch and departure from the Rainforest Camp
Before leaving the Rainforest Camp lunch will be served, then around noon, you’ll transfer to your next hotel or the airport. All good things come to an end, they say, but luckily this unique experience will remain in your memory for the rest of your life!
