Sports equipment and stationery donation at Baan Pattana School
Elephant Hills Children’s Project donates sports equipment and stationery at Baan Pattana School, Cheow Larn Lake
We are extremely pleased to be able to introduce yet another new school that we are now supporting through Elephant Hills Children’s Project. We have been operating our Children’s Project for over ten years, and over the years have been contributing to the education of rural children in Khao Sok area, close to our resort and elephant camp. We are grateful for the increased support we have received from our partners and guests. This has enabled us to extend our help to other areas, such as Baan Cheow Larn village, which is located close to our floating camp at Cheow Larn lake.
With the funds received from our generous guests visiting us at Elephant Hills, we were able to purchase a great selection of sports equipment. Based on our discussions with the teachers we selected hula-hoops, chair balls and baskets, footballs, volley balls, badminton sets, skipping ropes and other equipment. The sports equipment was specifically requested as a part of the school’s ongoing campaign to encourage the children to spend more time outside, and become enthusiastic about exercise and ball games. We also gathered some of the English books and stationery donated by our guests and headed to the school.
We were pleased to receive an amazing welcome by the friendly students and teachers at Baan Pattana School. The headmistress Ms. Pim invited us to her office to have a meeting, and she also was very excited of the donation. After handing out the donations, it was brilliant to watch the students trying out their new equipment. Despite the hot sun everyone was up for a game of badminton, football or testing out the hula-hoops or skipping ropes. The English books were also a success; several students became interested and started reading the basic words.
As many as 241 students attend Baan Pattana School and there are altogether 16 teachers. The school provides primary education from kindergarten until 6th grade. During our meeting with Ms. Pim, we found out that the school is currently lacking for instance musical instruments, playground equipment and sets of school uniforms for the poorest students. In Thailand, the kindergarten, primary and secondary education at government schools is provided free of charge. However, some of the poorest families struggle with buying the school uniforms, bags and basic stationery.
